Starter spinning but not engaging. - Ford F150 Forum.
. Re: Starter doesn't stop when engine starts. Presumably reading the voltage at the starter will only confirm that +12 is present since the known result is a spinning starter motor. An " electrically" stuck starter is a consequence of something upstream since it's energy comes from a switched+12v supply..
OBB Starters and Alternators - The Starter Does Not Disengage.
When the P1 contact is closed, no current flows in coil P and the solenoid plunger is held in by coil H. When the ignition switch is opened (after engine start-up), contact P1 opens, and the starter motor disengages and stops. The drive pinion is pulled out of engagement with the flywheel by the return spring in the main solenoid..
Starter wont stop cranking - S-10 Forum.
Once the flywheel turns quick enough, it nudges the driver back into the starter motor and the starter motor shuts off. With that said, the first thing we would advise you to do is to make sure the starter motor is properly installed and lined up correctly within the engine. Check that all bolts are tightened. It should not be loose.

Starter/solenoid update Well, I picked up a new starter solenoid from NAPA and not AutoZone. Once installed, I started it up and the starter again seemed to spin or sounded like it was still spinning for about two to three seconds. It definitely did not sound as bad as it did with the last solenoid.. When the ignition switch is turned to the start p [osition and the purplewire is energized, the solenoid pops out and when the ignition is released the solenoid rod SHOULD pop back down ( a spring assists this). If the solenoid rod sticks, the switch inside the solenoid assy will stay in contact letting the starter continue to spin.

Inserted key to start engine. All I got was a winding noise. took the starter to Advanced auto, they found the seleniod was bad. put a a new used rebuilt starter would not stop cranking. Checked my connections to see if I had wires touching, all good. Took new starter back to Advanced auto machine said stater was good.
Starter won't stop running, even after cutting ignition.
When ignition key is released starter continues to turn. When engine is shut off starter continues to turn. If battery is disconnected it will stop and not reengage when power is restored. I took the starter back to Auto Zone and the starter tests ok. They will give me a new one if I want but would like to eliminate other possible cadses.

Either unplug the dryer or trip the circuit breaker. While the dryer is off, press and hold the Start/Pause button for five seconds. Restore power. If this doesn’t fix the problem, call a repair service. nP. Check that the dryer is plugged into a grounded, 240V outlet. Reset the home circuit breaker. The solenoid then kicks out and supplies power to the starter. When the solenoid gets stuck the starter stays engaged and keeps spinning on its own, when that happens its drawing power directly from the battery not the ignition switch. I wouldnt say its common, but ive seen it happen more that a few times.

Hi Melissa, When you twist the ignition key from the "on" or "run" position to the start position, three things happen to start the engine. They are: a) the starter solenoid is energized [the starter solenoid is needed because the ignition switch has small wires capable of carrying 20 or 30 amps at the most and the starter motor will require hundreds of amps to spin - the solenoid can safely. 6 Cylinder Engines - starter wont stop spinning - ive replaced my solenoid for my starter 17 times from different parts stores around town. my next guess is its the starter but i dont want to spend the extra money on one if its not the problem. ive been wondering if having 2 silenoids would do any thing i now have a.
Starter motor won't stop spinning....
Hello, BlackMax is a 150HP. My starter stays "on" while the boat motor is on. I turned off the motor and it is a buzzing sound, presumably the starter. I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal to get it to stop. Then, bumping the negative terminal with the wire will attempt to. To isolate whether it's the PDC, disconnect it. If the starter still cranks when you connect the battery, you have a short of the brown wire to positive in the loom somewhere between the PDC and starter. If it does not when you disconnect the PDC, then you may have a short inside the PDC or at the connectors. D.
Starter issues, part 2. Spins, won't turn motor | Honda.
Starter spins but doesn't engage: you hear it spinning like any electric motor, free spinning sound, no clicks, no grinding sound. The mechanism to engage the flywheel is faulty, probably the solenoid that activates it is either faulty (it moves its internal parts to make contact and so the motor spins, but it is not pulling the engaging.

. That prevents the mechanism from fully releasing back to the RUN position from START. If that doesn’t work and you’re sure the lock cylinder isn’t the cause, try swapping the starter relay with another relay with the same part number. If the problem persists, it’s not a stuck relay. Next check for ground at the starter relay control.
